Lenasia South Civic Centre security a joke!

A vehicle robbery two weeks ago has sparked debate about the centre’s security measures. At the time of SOUTHERN GLOBE’S investigation, our office uncovered another shocking fact: Computers in the Water and Lights office had also been stolen three months ago.

Clearly security is sorely lacking. To add insult to injury, our local councillor, Paul Molutsi, confirmed this but added that new computers were purchased but had not been connected yet! And there are still no phones in that office either. Despite this, Molutsi still seems to have complete confidence in SOS Security, whom he claims is also contracted to other council facilities in Ennerdale and neighbouring areas.

Owner of the stolen vehicle, Dilip Madhav - local resident and owner of Starling General Dealer - told SOUTHERN GLOBE he was fed up with the state of crime in Lenasia South and described how on that fateful day he had gone to the Civic to pay his water and lights account. .“I locked my bakkie, enabled the alarm and in a matter of 10 to 15 minutes, when I came out, my bakkie was gone,” he said. “There were two security guards who were supposed to be alert and safe-guarding the premises, but they were too interested in their game of chess”. They saw the bakkie leaving with the robbers and did nothing,” he added. According to Madhav, incompetent security guards and the Centre’s location is a cause for concern. He cautions residents using the Centre’s facilities to become more vigilant, especially during day time.

Dilip Madhav appeals to readers to come forward with any information that may lead to the successful recovery of his bakkie – a white Toyota Hilux, registration BVJ 503 GP. He may be contacted on 011855-4292. Did you know that the Lights and Water office is closing?

Additional investigations from SOUTHERN GLOBE reporters unveiled vital information, which was not shared with the media and more importantly, the community. As from 1 March, the Customer Services Office at the Lenasia South Civic Centre will no longer operate. There has been no indication of notices to the public, except for the small print glued to the entrance of the Treasury Department is seen in the bottom left picture.
