In this issue, SOUTHERN GLOBE brings you a “Hot” Ice – White Volkswagen (VW) Caddy. This is Muhammed Mamajees’ VW Caddy and he is 22 years old from Lenasia.

He bought the car stock and now 2 years later it looks much better with all the right modifications for this shape. Now it doesn’t look like an innocent Caddy, it looks mean and scary, ready to give all those Johannesburg no tolerance people hell. The first mod on the agenda was a set of 16” Work Meister S1 rims wrapped in 205/45R16 rubber – the added beauty of the rim is that there are only three in the country. And to make these amazing wheels stand out even more, he added a perfect 60/40mm drop. Now the Caddy has the right stance for its little size.

The full polyurethane suspension kit on the Caddy is one of the best and it completes the Caddy like no other. The supreme “souped” up performance of this 1983 VW Caddy comes from its 2-litre 4-cylinder in-line 16 valve custom motor. The motor was built within two months by Muhammed himself through his fathers’ company known as Multi-parts Engineering with the help of Ally Sayed at Joburg Auto Tech. Included is a set of VR6 brakes. Besides the ice-white paintwork, the interior comprises of standard ox blood red seats, an original 16 valve steering and a Golf life cluster speedometer. The car is dressed in a full Caractere kit complete with new bumpers, side sills, grille and subtle wing. Thus far, Muhammed has never lost a race with his VW Caddy. Muhammed and his Caddy had won a Honda V-Tec, VW Polo Gti, VW Golf 5 Gti, and a B20 V-Tec at Tarltons’ normal night races. Off the record (illegal), his Caddy beat an Opel OPC, BMW 325, BMW 2.7, BMW 2.9 and a BMW 327. For Muhammed, building motors, souping up cars and racing is a hobby.
