Armed robbery suspects behind bars

The Lenasia South Police arrested a 23-year-old man after a 44-year-old man was robbed of his money on 4 December, at around 12.30pm while travelling in a taxi along the K43 road from Lenasia to Lenasia South.

It is alleged that the suspects realised the police roadblock ahead of the taxi. They then instructed the taxi driver to stop the taxi as they wanted to get off.

\When the taxi was about to stop they then pointed the firearm at the victim, took her bag and ran to the nearby bushes. The taxi driver then alerted the police who were at the roadblock. The police gave chase and one of the suspects was arrested.
Police preliminary investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects. The suspects are linked to another armed robbery case that took place at Brixton and the house robbery case that took place at Lenasia South. A 9mm firearm was recovered. The suspects will appear at Vereeniging Magistrate Court on 18 December.

The Lenasia South Police are working around the clock to ensure safety of the community. Sup Ivan Perumal told SOUTHERN GLOBE: ‘’We also encourage community members to keep reporting all criminal activities happening around the area.’’

‘’I thank all the detectives for the good work done during the investigation,’’ he added.
Police investigations are continuing.
